The series revolves around a rock duo (Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie) who decide to move from New Zealand to New York with the hope their band Flight Of The Conchords will hit it big there. Instead of finding fame, the band struggles to get gigs and (more importantly) fans. On top of that, Jermaine and Bret are not doing well in the big city and are doing even worse with women. Throughout the course of the 12 episode season, the Conchords burst into songs about such subjects as robots, women, the French, and being poor.

I may be in the minority here, but I find nothing the least bit amusing about “Flight Of The Conchords.” The show is simply a rip-off of “Tenacious D,” “Extras” and other vastly superior dead-pan British shows. As if that weren’t enough, the show’s documentary style approach feels completely fictional and staged, the episode plots (especially those about the band breaking up) have been done countless times before, the dopey characters do not develop at all, the back and forth jokes try to hard to be like “Abbot And Costello” routines, and worst of all- the songs try to be clever but fail miserably! Here’s a small sampling of some eye-rolling lyrics:

“I’m not crying, it’s just been raining on my face.”

“The humans are dead. We used poisonous gases and we poisoned their asses.”

“You could buy me a burrito and some beans and rice, but that won’t get you into pants paradise.”

Not much in the way of extras aside from previews of all 12 episodes and ads for HBO and “Entourage.”

“Flight Of The Conchords” is presented in 16:9 widescreen with a 2.0 Stereo track.
