Review

"Johnny And The Sprites" is an unoriginal and mediocre children's program.

The plot: Johnny is a musician who has taken residence in a home in the Grotto’s Grove woods. Living in these woods are creatures known as the Sprites that are only visible to Johnny and the viewers. Among Johnny’s Sprite friends are: Basil, Lil’ Root, Ginger and Lily. Together, Johnny and the Sprites hang out and sing about such topics as insecurities, promises, inspirations, figuring out problems, uniqueness, and most importantly- friendship.

I may be alone in thinking this, but I find “Johnny And The Sprites” to be a disturbing show. Think about this: the premise revolves around a grown man who lives in the woods. His only human friend is a woman named Gwen who comes around his house sometimes. Mostly, however, Johnny chats to invisible creatures. To me, this is worrisome cabin fever like behavior that is setting a bad example for kids. I could understand if the show revolved around a child that has “invisible” friends, but a grown man? It’s creepy to say the least.

As if the premise weren’t off-putting enough, the show features some truly terrible songs with even worse singing. Is it really that hard to hire professional singers? These voice actors can make a character come to life, but hearing them sing is like nails on a chalkboard.

The only redeeming qualities of the show are the morals/life lessons and the colorful and creative sets.

Note: Included in this 57 minute DVD is a music video for the song “Head’s Up.”

Extras:

* Music Time- Sing-a-long subtitles

* Trailers for “Little Einsteins,” “Handy Mandy,” “Wall-E,” “Tinker Bell,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Jungle Book 2,” “My Friends Tigger and Pooh,” and a Disney ad.

* 5 shorts (20:13) with optional lyrics. The shorts are titled: “Who’s On First?,” “Laugh, Basil, Laugh,” “Leave A Little Lettuce,” “Yes You Can!” and “Waiting For The Stars.”

The Flight Of The Phoenix

Category: Quick Reviews
http://www.foxhomevideo.com/ A great Jimmy Stewart drama and supporting cast includes Peter Finch and Richard Attenborough. Crashed in the desert, the passengers and crew must learn how to survive and eventually build a planne to take them to safety. One of the best survival films ever made. Nice picture and sound from Fox Home Video .
