Featured Review
 In bold print, this DVD says "Warning: Contains Violence, Honor and Selfless Sacrifice." So I am down with violence, especially when I am expecting it to be some bad-ass samurai epics battle royales, a la Kurosawa, but why would the film/DVD makers warn me about Honor and Selfless Sacrifice? Oh, because Honor and Selfless Sacrifice translates to boring, boring, and long. If you are a fan of Samurai movies, then you will have already seen a version or two of the story of the 47 Ronin. Kon Ichikawa gives us a version in which he spends a lot of time building up the story, but with little pay-off. My definition of pay-off includes bloodletting, sword fights, and some real satisfaction. Don't let me deter you from checking this version out, but be prepared for a very exposition-heavy, nature scene-y samurai-avenging-their-master-finally-after-two-hours film.
