Suspiria - Collector's Edition

Category: Quick Reviews

Dario Argento’s best film is finally given the 2-disc treatment it deserves from Blue Underground, and results are outstanding.

Those not familiar with Argento’s work may be put-off the wafer-thin plot. But like most of his 70's efforts, the story is secondary to tone and imagery, which "Suspiria" has in abundance. Despite the fact there are long stretches in which nothing’s really happening, the movie is so damn cool to look at that we remain hooked. With its ample use of eerie lighting (sets are saturated in primary colors) and interesting camerawork, if nothing else, "Suspiria" is one of the best-looking horror movies ever made. Longtime Argento collaborators, Goblin, provide the bizarre-but-effective music score.

This set includes enough interesting bonuses to make it worth picking up by Argento fans, the best being a lengthy retrospective documentary, first made for the 25th Anniversary edition in 2003.

Movie Quotes

Well, I've wrestled with reality for thirty-
five years, Doctor, and I’m happy to state I
finally won out over it.
