Fox announces "The Savages"

savages coverChaos and comedy combine when two middle-aged siblings find themselves plucked from their comfortable living to to take  care for their elderly father in THE SAVAGES, set for releaseon DVD April 22 from Fox Home Entertainment. 

Nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Actress for Laura Linney (Kinsey) and Best Original Screenplay for writer/director Tamara Jenkins (Slums Of Beverly Hills), THE SAVAGES also features brilliant performances by Oscar winner** Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) in his Golden Globe nominated role as an emotionally crippled forty-something and Tony Awardâ winner Philip Bosco (“Damages”) as the titular family patriarch. Described by writer/director Jenkins as a coming of middle-age story, THE SAVAGES follows struggling East Village playwright Wendy (Linney) and her brother Jon (Hoffman), a neurotic college professor, as they revisit their uncomfortable past while settling the affairs of their undeserving and neglectful father (Bosco).

An official selection at over a dozen film festivals, garnering multiple Best Screenplay and Best Actress accolades and included on more than 50 critics’ “Top 10” lists of 2007, THE SAVAGES is a brutal encounter with mortality told with uncommon humanity, wit and humor… singularly funny and seriously moving,” (Los Angeles Times). Beautifully executed, this independant film features intriguing bonus features including behind-the-scenes featurettes, an uncut version of “The Sun City West Rhythm Tapperst,” director’s snapshots and more. It's a familiar story, a parable of civilization and savagery, revisited in 1990 by Castle Rock and director Henry Hook, who is also the film's editor.
