Review

"24" continues to be a gripping action adventure; just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the next season rolls around and tops it. This season four set is no exception; the series continues to be one of the best shows on television. Starring Keifer Sutherland, who won an emmy for his role as Jack Bauer, this season sees new cast members shine in pivotal roles (Kim Raver, William Devane, Alberta Watson) and we see the return of old favorites Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub), Tony (Carlos Bernard) and Michelle Dessler (Reiko Aylesworth), Dennis Haysbert also reprises his role as ex-President David Palmer.
Oh boy-talk about a fast moving show. WIthout giving away major plot surprises, Jack has his hands full with a terrorist plot to disrupt the U.S. on one fateful day. A family of terrorists is featured and FoxTV had Keifer Sutherland do disclaimers that their portrayal was in no way to reflect on actual people living here in the U.S. These disclaimers are not on the DVD. We learn slowly what the plot involves as the sleeper cell goes about its business. These guys are serious about it; the teenage boy in the sleeper cell is ordered by his father to do away with his girl friend. Jack has taken a job as advisor to the Secretary of Defense (Devane) and is having a secret romance with his daughter (Kim Raver). Fate brings him back to CTU when a terrorist is caught and his boss and lover are kidnapped. While the Secretary is being brought to trial on the Internet by the terrorists, Jack is temporarily "reinstated" to rescue his boss. Hey, and that's only the beginning of the day. Other crisis loom larger and larger as the day progresses as Jack pursues the head terrorist, (Arnold Voslo "The Mummy") and the series reaches a nail biting conclusion with devastating results for Jack once again.

Picture and Sound

The widescreen picture is fantastic and flawless. The newly designed CTU headquarters finally gets an outside in some scenes and looks way more efficient. Dolby 5.1 sound makes the action scenes more intense; bullets wizz by through the surround speakers and dialog is clear through the center channel.

Extras

Disc seven contains most of the extras; there is cast /crew commentary and deleted scene options on the episode discs. All the 39 deleted scenes are put together on disc seven; some extend some scenes and some are scenes that were cut or reshot. Most are not that long though, with an average time of about two minutes per scene. Also included is a poorly acted and amatuerish cell phone video version of 24, called "24 Conspiracy" which brings minute episodes that were part of a cell phone promotion for 24 originally. The best part of the extras has to be the prequel that bridges seasons four and five together, which will return to air in January 2006. This exclusive tells what has happened to Jack since the end of Season 4.

Summary

"24-Season Four" is still your best bet for action adventure and I would say your biggest bang for the buck for a television series. The writers, cast, and photography all combine beautifully for an entertaining day in the life of Jack Bauer.
