Now you can own the complete "4400" series with new extras and commentary from cast members at a discount. FOr those who held off buying the individual seasons sets or just discovered it during its last season, this set is the one to get. The mammoth 15 disc set contains all 4 seasons of the show and its evolving cast. Pesronally, I liked the first cast and early epsiodes the best with Laura Allen as Lily and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali as Richard. Constants throughout the series included Joel Gretsch and Jacqueline McKenzie as National security agents investigating the 4400 and Bily Campbell as the mysterious Jordan Collier. For those unfamiliar with the series, "The 4400" are people who have been returned to Earth after being abducted by aliens. While they all return at once, they are from different time periods (since 1947). Two agents have been assigned to investigate the 4400 and incidents surrounding them, as they have all returned with different abilities and powers.
Later additions to the cast had a profound impact on the series; from catatonic Jeffrey Combs to strange Summer Glau, fresh from her stint on Firefly. While the show sometimes got a bit bogged down turning it into a sci-fi semi soap, the writers always managed to pull it together with exciting episodes to keep it running. The conclusion in season four is well thought out and has been well received. The widescreen picture is very good and looks even better on an upconverter. Special effects are never cheesy looking and the overall picture has bright, snappy colors and sharp images. The Dolby 5.1 surround is an added bonus for home theater owners. Extras on this set include new interviews and commentary from cast and crew that were not on the previous boxed season sets. "The 4400-The Complete Series" is a powerful package made more economical than buying individual season sets and I recommend it for fans of the series.

Man, I'm getting old. You know you're getting old when Hollywood commences remaking movies you fondly remember from your youth (geez, has it been 29 years already?). And you know you're getting REALLY old when you start scoffing at the idea of updating movies you think are timeless classics because they'll undoubtedly screw it up by homogenizing it as teenage fodder ("The Longest Yard"), raunching-it-up to keep those same teenagers amused ("The Nutty Professor"), or remaining so faithful to the original that it's rendered redundant ("Psycho"). This update of "The Bad News Bears" could initially be seen as redundant. It tells the exact same story, features some of the exact same dialogue, same gags, even samples of the same classical music score. A few of the kids in the movie even resemble their 1976 counterparts. That faithfulness to its source material is sort of a double edged sword, though. Yeah, it's great that this version is as politically incorrect, foul-mouthed & funny as the first, but at the same time, why bother if all you're really doing is retracing someone else's footsteps?
