Review
I saw a promo for that irritating Comedy Central show, The Root of All Evil, one night after watching South Park. Lewis Black said something about Tila Tequila being the root of all evil, and I respectfully disagree with Mr. Black. Tila Tequila is a symbol for everything wrong with my generation, but she is not the root of all evil. She is merely a tool of that evil.
A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila follows the quest for love and the memorable drama that happens along the way. And lots of making out. I think Tila is a minor internet star, and geez, dontcha know it, the hot girl cannot find love. Throw in the notion that Tila is not sure whether she is down with men or women, and you got yourself a hit MTV show.
This style of dating show is pretty standard at this point. The "star" makes her suitors and suitesses go through a series of lame competitions in order to get an hour of alone time, or at least a threesome in which Tila tends to make out with both sexes. Tila seems to feel pretty proud of her self for being so edgy, but frankly, I don't think she is a real lesbian. If she were, she would have chosen the better contestant in the end, which happened to be a girl. Instead, well, you can watch the entire series of you are a masichist like me. Or you can take my word for it, and spend your time reading the novelization instead.
Word of advice if you are planning on trying out for the show: Make sure you are comfortable with Tila's own brand of sexism, which includes making women flaunt their assets instead of their personalities. Because you know, you can tell a lot about a book by its cover. In the case of the DVD cover, A Shot at Love is just another lame "sell-ebrity" grasping for more than 15 minutes.
Picture and Sound
Everything about this show is made on the cheap. The picture is the requisite digital tape that all reality shows use, and the sound is pointless, I mean, adequate. The DVD packaging features lots of stills from the show in all their fuzziness.
Extras
Just more of the lame doings and transpirings that happened in that memorable first season. Extended scenes a plenty, if you didn't get the point the first time. You do get a longer cut of the infamous Brandi versus Vanessa catfight during an elimination, and thank god, because before I saw the extended scene, I thought both lesbians were crazy. Now, I know they are crazy and stupid.
Summary
I never knew who Tila Tequila was before this MTV reality dating show, and I wish I could go back in time to that moment before I decided to watch that first "gateway" episode. If you think that a stripper deserves true love too, then A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila is right up your alley. In Ms. Tequila's (if that is her real name) defense, she does seem sweet. I just wish that she didn't feel the need to try and shock people with her supposed bi-sexuality. We get it. You like girls. Sure, ya do.
