Review

http://sonymusic.com/Music/dvd Sony Music Video comes out with an early Christmas present for concert fans with this sampler DVD of artists, highlighting some of their best concerts on DVD. They made a great marketing decision in selling the DVD for an incredible less than $10.00 retail price making this DVD an extra special value.
The disc contains 14 selections. Here's the entire discs contents: Harry Connick Jr.-He Is, They Are Billy Joel-We Didn't Start The Fire Stevie Ray Vaughan-Pride and Joy The Allman Brothers Band-Midnight Rider Jeff Buckley-Eternal Life Jimmie Vaughan-Texas Flood Shawn Colvin-Diamond In The Rough John Denver-Annie's Song Mary Chapin Carpenter-"Come On Come On" Tony Bennett-"Moonglow" (with k.d. Lang) Luther Vandross-"Power Of Love/Love Power" Kenny Loggins-"Footloose" Charlotte Church-"Danny Boy" Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Conner-"1B" It is a terrific variety of musical treats that is sure to please. The number's are all taken from Sony DVD discs already on the market, and Sony hopes by offering this disc, you will see the quality and variety of musical talent they have to offer on their music videos.

Picture and Sound

Picture-The video taped performances are all of high quality and reflect the atmosphere in which they are performed. While Billy Joel's number at Yankee Stadium is dark and atmospheric, Shawn Colvin's number is close up and intimate. Camera work concentrates clearly on the musical performances. The most spectacular in set up is the Charlotte Church number, with spotlights surrounding this beautiful young girl with the angelic voice. Sound-The sound mixes vary as well but most take good advantage of the surround sound capabilities of DVD utilizing Dolby 5.1. While performances are clearly front and center heavy, the surround speakers are also employed for more than just audience noise in most numbers.

Extras

Extras-Since this is a promotional disc, we get some information about each artist and the DVD the selection is taken from. This information is presented in an informational screen before each song and when indexing the selections through the chapter choice screen.

Summary

Anyone who enjoys music should pick up this disc, as it offers a great variety of artists and styles from jazz to rock to country to classical. At the price, you can't beat this disc for value. I'm also glad this DVD says volume 1, which usually means more are in the works. Hats off to Sony Music Video for offering this phenomenal music sampler at such a fair price.

Charmed - The Complete Second Season

Category: DVD Reviews
Shows like "Charmed" tend to make one appreciate just how influential "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" really was. Not that this is a worse show. Quite the contrary; "Buffy" has arguably influenced more GOOD knock-offs than most popular programs you can name. Of the subsequent similar shows to air in "Buffy's" wake, "Charmed" is probably one of the most endearing. Whether or not that's due to good writing or the 'hottie' factor is debatable, but the show lends itself well to repeated viewings, which makes this boxed set of Season Two a must have for fans.
