Review

This film, written, produced and directed by Warren Beatty is another outstanding work by the mega star. The disc also lives up to Beatty's high standards of quality.
Senator Bulworth is up for re-election in 1996 and is really depressed. So depressed in fact, he hires a hit man to take himself out. While representing a squeaky clean, liberal image, the good Senator is tired of the politics as usual in Washington. He represents the hypocrisy which unfortunately is all too true these days in government. He plans a trip to California for his final weekend knowing that sometime during that trip he will be assassinated. When he arrives and has to make an appearance at a South Central church, he stops his prepared speech and really tells the congregation the truth in a blunt fashion. The audience and his aides are in total shock but the Senator suddenly feels good. It is announced in the press as a new campaign tactic and the Senator get more bold at each appearance. He is feeling so good that he decides that he doesn't want to die and he tries to call off the hit. He meets Halle Berry, who takes him home where the Senator can hide and get his thoughts together.

Picture and Sound

Picture- The picture is presented in widescreen 1.85:1 (non-anamorphic) and is an excellent transfer. Colors are well balanced and the print is very clean and free of dirt and scratches. Focus is sharp, with only a few artifacts showing up in darker scenes. Sound-The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack has very good channel separation and effects are heard through rear channels and dialog through the center channel. The rap music is booming in this presentation. Good dynamics throughout.

Extras

They are slim, consisting of a theatrical trailer and cast bios. Pretty slim pickens for such an inflated price.

Summary

Beatty does it again with this powerful political satire made with today's political atmosphere in mind. Great performances from the entire cast make this an enjoyable movie and seeing Beatty trying to rap is hilarious. The price of the disc is way out of line for the minimal extras it provides. However, if you like Beatty, this is an outstanding work. What's really scary about this film is that most of what Beatty states in the film is what most Americans believe as truth. Maybe he should of run for President!
