Review

This DVD was produced by The Disney Channel in hopes of creating another pre-teen hit like High School Musical but it has a few problems.

 First, the plot is totally predictable and you have seen it many times before in other kid camp movies.  Be true to yourself, yada,yada,yada.  Second, the film features the tweeners Jonas Brothers Band and one brother even stars in the film.  Disney introduces a new singer, Demi Lovato, who can sing but could use a few more acting lessons.  So, predictable story, a favorite tweener band, and the powerhouse Disney organization behind it; I'm sure they'll sell a zillion copies even if the content is mediocre at best.  For tweeners, spend the reasonably priced $15.00 for it; everyone else take a pass.

Extras included are just like the Blu-Ray release reviewed earlier:

* “Start The Party” and “We Rock” music videos.
* “Camp Rock Karaoke” and Sing Along with the movie features.
* “Camp Memories”- A 5 ½ minute photo gallery.
* Disney and Blu-ray ads and trailers.
* “Introducing Demi Lovato”- A 5 ½ minute featurette on the actress.
* “How To Be A Rock Star”- 28 minutes of tips on everything from singing, clothing, behavior, networking, and practicing.
* “The Camp Rock Set Tour” (7:30)- A Blu-ray exclusive extra.
* “Jonas Brothers: Real Life Rock Stars” (15:30)- Learn about the band via interviews with the Brothers themselves.
* “Too Cool: Setting The Scene” (3:30).
* “Hasta La Vista: From Rehearsal To Final Jam” (5:00).

One good thing about it: Disney continues to find positive role models for todays pre-teen youth.  Let's hope the money doesn't go to their heads, as it has with some other former Disney stars.

Cube Zero

Category: DVD Reviews
"Cube Zero" is the third film in a franchise that began in 1997, when the original, a cult hit worldwide, offered a simple scenario: toss its characters into a massive structure filled with thousands of identically shaped rooms - some rigged with deadly booby traps, some not - and force them to use their individual skills to find the exit without dying violently or starving to death. It was an intriguing piece of visceral moviemaking on a low budget. The inevitable sequel, "Cube 2: Hypercube," while not bad as sequels go, was so in love with its high-falutin' sci-fi trappings that it played more like a "Star Trek" episode than a second installment in the franchise...sure the premise was the same, but much of what made the original a success (namely, the fiendishly clever booby traps), took a back seat to endless ideas about the nature of time and physics. "Cube Zero" looks like an attempt to return to the grittiness of the original, while answering questions raised by the first two films...who built the cube, what is its purpose, and why does it exist? While I'm glad there's more emphasis on the creative (and gory) death scenes, I don't think the questions raised by the first two movies really required answering.
