For those unfamiliar with the show, CROSSING JORDAN follows the exploits of Medical Examiner Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessey, LAW & ORDER) and her cohorts at the ME’s office as she goes beyond her written duties to make sure that the corpses coming to her have their final say. Jordan brings a lot of baggage with her, resurrecting old hurts for her father (Ken Howard, MELROSE PLACE), and rattling the cage of her boss (Miguel Ferrer, TWIN PEAKS). Rounding out the team are “Bug” (Ravi Kapoor, GIDEON’S CROSSING), Nigel (Steve Valentine, NIKKI), Lily (Kathryn Hahn, in her television debut), and Trey (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, also in his television debut).

The first season establishes the workplace and the relationships between these characters, which become increasingly complex throughout not only the season but also the series’ six season run. Creator Tim Kring (HEROES) brings television audiences a procedural show that was less about the gadgets and the science and more about the people.

Season one merely scratches the surface on the amazing things the show would accomplish and the television boundaries it would push. Notable episodes are the metaphysical-minded “Miracles & Wonders”, the risk-taking “For Harry, With Love and Squalor”, and the two-part season closer “Secrets & Lies.” Season guest stars include Wallace Shawn (THE PRINCESS BRIDE) as Dr. Howard Stiles, Chris Noth (SEX & THE CITY) as FBI Special Agent Drew Haley, Jerry O’Connell (SLIDERS) as Detective Woody Hoyt, Carl Reiner (OCEAN’S ELEVEN) as Harry Macy, and Jack Klugman (QUINCY M.E.) as Dr. Leo Gelber.

Mission Impossible 2

Category: DVD Reviews
This sequel with the character Tom Cruise created in Mission Impossible I is about all that is left from the original. While I liked the original a lot (see my review), this film has the mark of John Woo, the director all over it. Woo previously directed Face-Off, another high action adventure film, among others. Not that this is bad; it's just not anything like the original.
