The end of Tom Baker's era, and the start of Peter Davison's run.
"The Keepr Of Traken" finds the Doctor summoned to the peaceful, evil-less world of Traken where he must uncover whom is terrorizing the planet. As much as I like Tom Baker's Doctor, I have to admit that he seems tired here. He just seems to go through the motions and lacks the humor and wit that made his Doctor so popular. It doesn't help that the screenplay is rather lackluster until the riveting final moments in which the Master presents himself. In Tom Baker's swan song "Logopolis," the Doctor tries to stop the maniacal Master from not only destroying the important planet of Logopolis, but destroying the universe itself. Even though this episode features the two worst companions (Tegan and Adric) and some heavy exposition, there's much to admire here. First and foremost, Who fans finally get more insight into the fascinating regeneration process. In addition, it's great to see Anthony Ainley's take on the Master. He may ham it up at times, but his scenes with the Doctor have you glued to the screen. "Castrovalva" finds the Doctor not only struggling with the new regeneration, but struggling to stop the Master from yet another evil trap/plan. It's no secret that regeneration stories are tricky. The main problem with them is that it's hard to get a sense of what the new Doctor is like as he's nearly out of his mind. Plus, it doesn't help that Davison's first episode is rather empty story wise. Luckily, the episode does have several memorable moments such as seeing more of the Tardis interior, Davison picking out his outfit, the introduction of the zero room, learning more about the powers of the Tardis, etc.
Picture and Sound
The 4:3 fullscreen picture quality looks like all of the other classic episodes on DVD. Good, but far from great. The Mono audio track is nice and clean, but obviously not up to Dolby Digital quality.
Extras
The Keeper Of Traken: * Photo gallery, info text, isolated music score, 6 mins of trailers and continuity ads, and a "Doctor Who" series 2 ad. * DVD-ROM extras: Radio Times listings and a Dr. Who annual. * Sarah Sutton On Swap Shop (11:15) is an enjoyable interview with the actress on her career. * "The Return Of The Master" (9:40) is a featurette on the return of the Doctor's arch nemesis. * "Being Nice To Each Other" is a 30 minute docu on the costumes, sets, JNT, and early script draft information. * Commentary by Anthony Ainley, Sarah Sutton, Matthew Waterhouse, and Johnny Byrne- Byrne provides some great insight into writing the story and Ainley delivers some good laughs. Logopolis: * Isolated music, photo gallery, continuities, info text, DVD-rom 1982 "Dr. Who" annual/Radio Times listing, and a "Robin Hood" series 1 ad. * A 2 minute news item about Tom Baker getting married and leaving "Doctor Who" and Peter Davison being announced as the Doctor. *A fun little interview with Peter Davison from the "Pebble Mill At 1" show. The highlight: Hand drawn pictures of what fans want Davison's costume to look like. * 8 minutes of interviews with Tom Baker and Peter Davison from the show "Nationwide." * "A New Body At Last" is a 50 minute docu on the changes made to the show as well as Tom's antics on set. A must watch. * Commentary by Tom Baker, Janet Fielding, and Christopher H. Bidmead. Chris goes into depth about the story and metaphors, while Baker makes the track worth listening to with his jokes. Castrovalva: * Info text, continuities, photo gallery, isolated music score, a remixed music video of the opening theme, and the two DVD-ROM extras- 1982 "Dr. Who" annual and Radio Times listings. * A 20 1/2 minute interview with Peter Davison on the show "Swap Shop." A lot of the questions asked were already asked by other interviewers from other extras. * The "Blue Peter" extra is a 9 minute rundown of "Dr. Who" as well as a quick interview with Peter Davison. * "Directing Castrovalva" is an 11 minute interview with director Fiona Cumming. * 1 1/2 minutes of deleted scenes. * "Being Doctor Who" is a 13 1/2 minute featurette with Davison talking about how he got the part and what he brought to the role. * "The Crowded Tardis" is an 11 1/2 minute featurette on the MANY companions. * Commentary by Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, Christopher H. Bidmead and Fiona Cumming. Highlights include everyone playfully making fun of Janet and Davison laughing at his acting.

Featured Review
Just like the film, this two-disc set of Francis Ford Coppola's classic is both rewarding and maddening, comprehensive yet incomplete. Of course, no DVD collection is complete without at least one version of the movie, and if nothing else, this set provides a great opportunity to grab "Apocalypse Now" & "Apocalypse Now Redux" at the same time, along with enough bonus features that make it worth replacing any previous DVD for. However, as anyone obsessed with the film will certainly attest to, without the inclusion of the brilliant documentary, "Hearts of Darkness," which chronicled the harrowing movie shoot, this "Dossier" is decidedly incomplete.
