Review

Tired of remakes? Wishing for new stories. You'll have to wait a bit longer as remakes (such as "The Invasion") show no signs of disappearing anytime soon.
The story: After a space shuttle explodes, debris infected with an alien virus is scattered all over the place. In no time flat, this alien virus takes over humans in their sleep and causes them to become emotionless robots so to speak. The heroes of the story (played by Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig) try desperately to stay awake and to avoid the alien infected people. Can they stay human? Can the virus be eliminated? Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, aliens, sounds promising, right? Wrong. "The Invasion" is yet another pointless bloated remake filled with endless talky exposition, alien vomit, laughable dialogue, lifeless acting by Kidman, characters running around, and a five minute discussion about a dog named Bobo (don't ask). While the material no doubt reflects current events, that doesn't mean we need to suffer through another remake. The original "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" is timely enough. It's time for Hollywood to focus on new ideas.

Picture and Sound

The widescreen picture quality is crystal clear for a DVD release. The Dolby Surround 5.1 audio track is also worth noting. The score, city noises, car chases, alien vomit all sound near perfect.

Extras

* Trailers for "Blade Runner," "Return To The House On Haunted Hill," "Flight Of The Living Dead," "10,000 B.C.," "Shoot 'Em Up" and a Gametap ad. * "We've Been Snatched Before: Invasion In Media History" is a nearly 19 minute documentary on the previous "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" films as well as the allegories. * "The Invasion: A New Story" (nearly 3 minutes) talks about how the updated story fits in with today's world. * "The Invasion: On The Set" is a 3 minute plus look at the location shooting. * "The Invasion: Snatched" is a 3 minute featurette on the aliens.

Summary

Skip "The Invasion" and rent or buy the original "Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers" instead.
