Review

"NYPD Blue", the phenominal ABC hit shows in Season Three some real acting talent from stars Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits, and Kim Delaney. For those unfamiliar with the show, "NYPD Blue" takes a close look at the interpersonal relationships and emotional trials of a squad of New York detectives as they go about their jobs. While the show is a police drama, it concentrates on the characters and sometimes the crimes take a back seat to what is happening with the characters.
The detectives investigate grim crimes in the city,; the exploitation and murdering of children, drive by shootings, drug deals gone bad; every crime in the book. How they deal with it and their personal lives is the focus of this show. Detectives Simone (Smits) and Russell (Delaney) are starting a relationship during this season, and Andy Sipowicz(Dennis Franz) deals with the birth of a new baby and the death of his older child in this season. Both Russell and Sipowicz are alcoholics who lean on each other for help and fall off the wagon to add drama to the already intense series. The cast has been through a lot of changes over the years of this show-Season three is no exception as secretary Gail O'Grady says farewell near the end of the season, as does gay cop Bill Brochtrup. That is one of the great things about the show-it's unpredictable, much like 24, in that no one is sacred from getting killed off or leaving.

Picture and Sound

The color fullscreen picture is free of any flaws or noise; would have liked it to be widescreen. Sound is Dolby three channel surround, enough for this show as Fox usually does an excellent job of sound mixing.

Extras

Extras on this four disc double sided set include some commentraries on episodes, a "Life in the 15th Precinct" feature, a "Father and Son" feature, which relates to Andy's turmoil this season, and a "Women of NYPD Blue" feature, profiling Kim Delaney, Gail O'Grady, and Sharon Lawrence.

Summary

"NYPD Blue" is an intense drama that focuses on the life of the detectives in the precinct. The outstanding cast gives wonderful performances and the writing is excellent. For true to life, gritty police drama, you can't go wrong with this set.

This teenage look at Clark Kent and Superman's early life is a terrific show with lots to offer the viewer. Season Three has a number of excellent shows which expand the relationships of the characters, played by the young cast led with Tom Welling as Clark Kent. Clark's love interest is Lana Lang, played with great depth by Kristin Kreuk. Kent's friends include Sam Jones III as Pete and Allison Mack as Chloe. Michael Rosenbaum plays Lex Luthor, also Clark's friend in the series but their friendship begins to tarnish during this season. Clark's parents are played by veteran actors John Schneider and Annette O'Toole. The man every one loves to hate in this series is Lex's dad, Lionel, interpreted well by John Glover.
