Review
P.S. I hate this movie.
The story: After her husband tragically passes away, Hollie receives a series of letters from her dearly departed husband who wrote them prior to his death. In these letters, he sends Hollie out on a series of adventures that will help her remember the good times, have fun, and hopefully make her move on with her life. If you love weepy sapfests, "P.S. I Love You" might be up your alley. If not, you may have a hard time swallowing this horribly miscast romantic dramedy. You'd think the pairing of Oscar winner Hilary Swank and "300" star Gerard Butler would be promising, but alas there is no chemistry between them. In virtually every scene they have together, they are either whining about life, arguing, or overacting. Swank is simply not leading lady material for this genre. She needs to stick to challenging adult roles like in "Million Dollar Baby." Similarly, Butler should stick to his action vehicles. He may have the ladies swooning, but he's not cut out for this genre. The worst acting, however, is by Harry Connick Jr. He has been likeable in films in the past, but his character here will make you cringe. The way he delivers forced quirky awkward dialogue had me wanting to hit the mute button. About the only positive aspect of the film was an appearance by Spike himself, James Marsters. Sadly, however, he is given a nohing role. Still, it's good to see him getting roles post Buffy and Angel.
Picture and Sound
The widescreen picture quality looked crystal clear, which is not a surprise as Warner Brothers rarely falters with new release transfers. The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track was also quite sharp.
Extras
* Trailers for "Fool's Gold," "Mama's Boy," "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2."
* A 7 1/2 minute conversation with author Cecelia Ahern.
* A 5 minute extra called "The Name Of The Game Is Snaps." I have no idea what this is all about by the way.
* 12 1/2 minutes of additional scenes with secondary characters.
* Finally, the extra no one wanted- A music video for James Blunt's song "Same Mistake." Shudder.

Spike Lee is one of the few living directors who, in his best work, consistently turns the settings of his films into supporting characters. Just check out "Do the Right Thing" or "Son of Sam"; both of those films rely heavily on the real-life overall tensions felt among the New York City's populace during the time in which the stories take place. Like those films, "25th Hour" oh-so-subtly uses a post-9/11 New York as a backdrop to tell its deceptively simple story, that of a young man looking for redemption before going to prison. In doing so, the film serves as perhaps the most dramatically striking fictional document that is ever likely to be made of that great tragedy. This supposed theme notwithstanding, "25th Hour" is among Lee's best films, and prompts this reviewer to wonder exactly who he has to sleep with to earn an Oscar nod for his cinematic skills.
Movie Quotes
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. Rutger Hauer Blade Runner
