Review

When her brother Joel (Perry King) begins acting strangely, Norah (Shirley MacLaine) must go to great lengths to discover the truth behind his affliction.  After taking part in a bizarre ritual, she finds that THE POSSESSION OF JOEL DELANEY may involve the restless spirit of a serial killer.


This film is neither suspenseful nor frightening.  The slow pace keeps any tension from building and the score simply makes noise without doing much else.  By the time anything even remotely interesting began to take place, I was an hour and 30 minutes into the movie and already bored to tears.

The best thing about the film?  Hands down, Shirley MacLaine’s hats.

Picture and Sound

Picture and sound are average, clean and clear enough. Although there were a couple of weird jumps during the scene of Joel’s birthday party; since they weren’t repeated, I don’t think I can write them off as a stylistic choice.

When it was announced that the final 9 episodes of "The Sopranos" were set to air in the spring and summer of 2007, I was both excited and worried. In my opinion, the show had been highly uneven after the award-winning first three seasons. Plus, it didn't help that many of the show's best characters were killed off or let go and that a few story arcs were nothing but filler (Christopher's never ending drug use, Meadow in college, and the Vito adventures come to mind). Thankfully, David Chase restored my faith in the series with a truly exciting, riveting, unforgettable conclusion.
