The first episode of this fifth season opens with a quick jab at the show itself. Thomas Lennon playing Lieutenant Jim Dangle attempts to ride a bicycle off of a poorly built bike ramp and jump over a 2 foot by 3 foot aquarium with a shark swimming around inside. What happens is exactly what you think will happen. He crashes right into the tank and breaks it, spilling the water  everywhere, releasing the shark and leaving Lt. Dangle all bloody.
      The idea behind the stunt, which was for charity, is that the show itself has jumped the shark. A term, if you’re not familiar with it, refers to a show that has gone on too long and overstayed its welcome. The term more specifically references an episode from the long running Happy Days sitcom in which Fonzie must jump a netted shark with his motorcycle. At this point, Happy Days had used up all of their good ideas. Some may say the same about Reno 911.
     But I disagree. The show is as funny as any other season. I watched the entire first season when it aired and then episodes here and there when it returned for a second and then I was lucky if I found time for it among my busy TV schedule. This is the first time since season one that I made a commitment to watch the still fresh series. I pray that they either continue to make shows or better yet, pump out another movie.
     Fans of the show will love this season and especially this box set. There is no shortage of improvisation here and no shortage on the laughs. Definitely check this out.
