Review
The third season of the original “Star Trek” is the weakest, but there are still a few gems to be found here.
Looking back, it’s not hard to see why season 3 was the last season for the original “Star Trek,” because the quality of writing went down the tubes. This 24 episode season contains some of the show’s worst episodes such as the unwatchable “And The Children Shall Lead,” the dull “The Lights Of Zetar,” and the universally panned “Spock’s Brain.” Of course, who can forget the hippies in space episode (“The Way To Eden”) which contains plenty of horrendous singing and Leonard Nimoy embarrassing himself! Thankfully, there are a few stand out episodes here such as “The Tholian Web,” two versions of the original pilot “The Cage,” the goofy, but entertaining “Plato’s Stepchildren,” the Romulan centric “The Enterprise Incident,” and “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” which touches on race issues. The series finale ("Turnabout Intruder") is also a provoking episode about gender inequality. You have to give credit to the writers here for tackling so many controversial topics and issues for the time period. Not only were these episodes groundbreaking at the time, but they also proved to be good, smart television. That is something that is certainly lacking in many of today's formulaic shows. Summary: If you want to get into the original “Star Trek,” season three is not the way to go. I would suggest checking out season two as it is the most consistent season and contains the best episodes. As for fans and hardcore Trekkers and Trekkies, buying this new remastered set is a no brainer.
Picture and Sound
The 4:3 fullscreen picture quality is once again superb. As far as I am concerned, the remastered editions are the only way to watch the series. The restorations are incredible and the new CGI scenes (especially “The Enterprise Incident” Romulan ships) are fantastic.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is also top notch. The sound f/x energizer beam, music, dialogue, and phasers all sounded clear as day.
Extras
* Trailers for all season 3 episodes.
* “Billy Blackburn’s Treasure Chest Part 3” (11:00) continues the stories and home movies of an extra.
* “To Boldly Go…Season 3” (22:30) contains interviews with the cast and crew and discussions about the show’s final season and its poor ratings/timeslot.
* “A Star Trek Collector’s Dream Come True” (7:00)- Propmaker John Long talks about creating his own phasers and communicators and owning an original phaser.
* “Life Beyond Trek- Walter Koenig” (11:00)- Koenig talks about his career.
* “Chief Engineer’s Log” (6:00)- A 2003 featurette in which the late James Doohan talks about his role as Scotty.
* “Memoir From Mr. Sulu” (8:30)- George Takei talks about Trek’s impact on his life.
* “Star Trek’s Impact” (9:00)- Eugene Roddenberry shares his thoughts on various aspects of TOS.
* “Captain’s Log: Bob Justman” (9:30)- A featurette on the Trek producer.
* “Collectible Trek” (14:30)- A fun featurette showcasing various Trek memorabilia and show props. This is my favorite extra on the disc.

By now, the central conceit of I'm Not There should be well-known to anyone who pays even a passing bit of attention at the world of music and/or independent cinema – it is an exploration of the life, career and chameleonic personality of Bob Dylan, who is represented throughout the film by six different actors of varying ages, genders and races. As well, we can put aside the much-vaunted efforts by Cate Blanchett to bring to life the mid-'60s/Dylan goes electric whilst running himself ragged on amphetamines era, which in all honesty deserves every accolade tossed its way
