Review

"Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show" is a documentary worth watching.

“Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show 30 Days And 30 Nights – Hollywood To The Heartland” is a behind-the-scenes documentary of a comedy tour consisting of Vince Vaughn, Justin Long, Ahmed Ahmed, Peter Billingsley, Bret Ernst, John Caparulo, Keir O’Donnell, and Sebastian Maniscalco. Throughout the trip, we learn about most of the comedians’ lives and in some cases even meet their families. In addition, there are also several guest appearances by the likes of Dwight Yoakam and Jon Favreau.

As a documentary, this film works rather well. We really get up close and personal with the comedians and see what it is like to be in their shoes. We see and feel their frustrations when they are heckled or when their jokes bomb, and experience their highs when the crowd loves them or when they help out Hurricane Katrina victims. As a comedy, however, the movie lacks sufficient humor. True, there are several amusing bits involving Justin Long portraying Vince’s character from “Swingers,” Vince and Peter doing an after school special, as well as various rants on Ross, dating, etc., but there simply wasn’t enough material shown here. We see lots of montages of bits that look fun (such as the dodgeball one), but we never actually hear them or see them in full. Heck, a lot of those bits aren’t even on the deleted scenes!

Picture and Sound

Both the 1.85:1 widescreen picture and the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track vary in quality. Some of the event footage and interviews are sharp, while others are grainy and sound garbled.

* New Line trailers.
* A 10 minute behind-the-scenes featurette that mostly takes place on the bus.
* Bonus comedian material and extended bits.
* "The Tour" (6:00) talks about how the show came about and how it developed.
* A 6 minute making of that looks at the director and Vince's intentions in making the project.
* Commentary by Ari Sandel, Bret Ernst, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Ahmed Ahmed- The group of comedians are actually fairly serious here as they chat about their experiences. As for the director, he talks about editing and how the stories for the docu were constantly evolving.
* Commentary by Vince Vaughn and Peter Billingsley. This is another serious track that goes into great depth about the material and how the film was structured.

3 , a made-for-TV biography of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, is one of ESPN's better attempts at dramatic programming. It doesn't really delve too deep into the life and career of the man, but it serves as a nice tribute, and features a great performance by Barry Pepper (who covered similar ground in HBO's 61* ). This two-disc set also features a huge batch of extras Earnhardt & NASCAR fans will love.
