This fourth collection of Donald Duck cartoon shorts covers the years 1951-1961 and includes some real gems. Besides most shorts that were produced in 1.33:1 aspect ratio, some were produced in widescreen and are offered here in that format. Along with these 6 minutes movie shorts, there are some additional cartoons and even an educational film starring Donald that is included. Here is the breakdown of the shorts on each disc with additional information:
1951 DUDE DUCK CORN CHIPS w/ Chip & Dale TEST PILOT DONALD w/ Chip & Dale LUCKY NUMBER w/ Huey, Dewy & Louie OUT OF SCALE w/ Chip & Dale BEE ON GUARD with Spike The Bee
1952 DONALD APPLE-CORE w/ Chip & Dale -My all time favorite LET'S STICK TOGETHER UNCLE DONALD'S ANTS TRICK OR TREAT w/ Huey, Dewy & Louie
1953 DONALD'S FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH w/ Huey, Dewy & Louie NEW NEIGHBOR RUGGED BEAR WORKING FOR PEANUTS w/ Chip & Dale (NOT presented in 3-D) CANVAS BACK DUCK w/ Huey, Dewy & Louie
1954 SPARE THE ROD w/ Huey, Dewy & Louie DONALD'S DIARY w/ Daisy DRAGON AROUND w/ Chip & Dale GRIN & BEAR IT w/ Humphrey Bear GRAND CANYONSCOPE (in WIDESCREEN CINEMASCOPE) FLYING SQUIRREL
1955 NO HUNTING w/ Humphrey Bear (in WIDESCREEN CINEMASCOPE) BEARLY ASLEEP w/ Humphrey Bear (in WIDESCREEN CINEMASCOPE) BEEZY BEAR w/ Humphrey Bear (in WIDESCREEN CINEMASCOPE) UP A TREE w/ Chip & Dale
1956 CHIPS AHOY w/ Chip & Dale (in WIDESCREEN CINEMASCOPE) HOW TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AT HOME
1959 DONALD IN MATHMAGIC LAND -An educational classic showing mathematics in nature. HOW TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AT WORK
1961 DONALD AND THE WHEEL THE LITTERBUG
10 Mickey Mouseworks Cartoons from 1999: New cartoons made to look like classics: BIRD BRAINED DONALD DONALD & THE BIG NUT DONALD'S CHARMED DATE DONALD'S DINNER DATE DONALD'S FAILED FORTH DONALD'S ROCKET RUCKUS DONALD'S SHELL SHOTS DONALD'S VALENTINE DOLLAR THE MUSIC STORE SURVIVAL OF THE WOODCHUCKS Its interesting to note that Leonard Maltin in his introduction mentions that Donald was the only character Disney continued to make in the 50's. Production costs did in Goofy and Mickey in 1953 but Donald continued until 1961 to accompany Disney feature releases. Extras on the discs include a history of Donald and his family in comic books, a storyboard presentation of an unmade Donald cartoon by Disney animator Eric Goldberg, who does all the voices, etc. and if selling the cartoon for production. There is also commentary on two of the shorts from Leonard Maltin and Jerry Beck. One of these commentaries is for the short "Working For Peanuts", which was produced for 3-D and played at Disneyland for a long time but this collection does not include the 3-D version. The other, on disc two is for Grand Canyonscope, a widescreen cinemascope cartoon. Picture and sound are up to the high Disney standard but viewers will notice a few flaws in some of the shorts. The shorts can be viewed by alphabetical or chronological order. Another terrific set to complete your Donald collection with some real rarities and interesting extras. Just wish they had included the 3-D version of "Working For Peanuts".

I know making fun of all-things-80s in currently in vogue (just flip on VH1 at any given time of day), but years later, don't you think making jokes about an era that suckered everyone into aping its shallow me-decade trends is about as old as Nixon jokes? Sure, we wore goofy clothes, listened to homogenized music and teased our hair until it brushed the ceiling; everyone we worshiped was beautiful, cool & dressed to the nines. But admit it...the 80s were fun. Shitloads of carefree fun, much the way the 50s were. We wanted both our music and our entertainment to be brainless junk food & eye candy. If there was ever a TV show which both embodied and inspired such a decade, it's "Miami Vice." Out of respect for the influence the show had on TV and popular culture, I'll do my best to refrain from making any snide remarks about the decade from which it spawned.
