Review

Jake Bateman (Michael O’Keefe, CADDYSHACK) and Barney Benar (Paul Rodriguez, BORN IN EAST L.A.) are THE WHOOPEE BOYS.  They arrive in Palm Beach looking for a good time and in the midst of crashing some swanky party, Jake meets a pretty gal who runs an orphanage.  She’s an heiress, but she’ll only get the money when she gets married.  And instead of getting married to the rich Palm Beach jerk who wants to tear down the orphanage and put up some condominiums, she sets her sights on Jake.  Only Jake decides he needs to go to charm school in order to learn how to dupe the Palm Beach high society.


Have you lost interest in this review yet?  I know I have.  About the time Jake and Barney take off to some weirdly remote charm school populated by an eccentric cast of characters, I think it’s possible that my brain shut off.  What exists of a plot is barely held together by throwaway performances and juvenile humor.

Watch for supporting performances by Denholm Elliott (INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE), Eddie Deezen (GREASE), Marsha Warfield (“NIGHT COURT”), Taylor Negron (FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH), and Greg Germann (TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY).

Sound is average and clear enough. Picture is clean, although the colors tend to be a little washed out and muted.

"BANNED FROM CABLE BROADCAST" boasts the blurb on the box of this episode from Showtime's "Masters of Horror" series. This time though, it ain't some sales ploy. Directed by Japanese horror maven Takashi Miike, "Imprint" is one of most disturbing movies I've seen in a long, long time, and it's easy to see why Showtime chose not to air it. Fortunately, Anchor Bay has no such qualms, because although the movie is definitely for the stout-hearted, it's incredibly well-made, and in it's own sick way, beautiful to look at.
