Fox re-releases X-Men One in anticipation of X-Men 2 due this summer padded with new and added supplements to the original disc release plus a sneak preview of the upcoming new feature as a way to promote the film early. For those who passed on the first disc release, this two disc set is worthy to consider, as it contains all the extras of the first, plus hours worth of additional featurettes and material. Fox boasts over 5 hours of additional material to watch.
The film is virtually the same on the disc with no additional scenes added if you hit the play button. For additional scenes and extensions, a feature (that was also included on the first disc ), must be turned on that branches to additional scenes. For the storyline, please see the original review of the first disc edition.
Picture and Sound
Both picture and sound are improved in this edition. The picture seems a bit brighter and sharper, with less graininess in the darker scenes. Special effects are tremendous in this film and look spectacular. Sound also improves on this DVD set with DTS surround added to the sound options. This film deserves the "heavy hitting" of DTS, with deeper bass response and power.
Extras
The extra disc included in this set includes hours worth of material, with 17 new featurettes, ranging from production and special effects to many cast interviews. Commentary on the film is provided by director Bryan Singer and Brian Peck. Deleted scenes also have a commentary option. Other features include exclusive looks at the new film, X-Men 2, and a film galleries. The features are well produced and tie in rather neatly on disc two and outweigh the viewing of the film by several hours. Interesting features include cast members describing their interpretations of their characters, makeup and preparation, and crew commentary involving the shooting.
Summary
X-Men 1.5 is exactly that. It contains a better picture and sound than the original, hours of extras, and a look at the new film. The price tag is a bit steep if you already own the original set but those who don't will want this set for sure.

Featured Review
As long as there are Trekkies with cash, the powers that be will never run out of ways to repackage "Star Trek" on DVD. Last year, having long since released every season of each show on disc, Paramount began offering the "Fan Collective" series, fan-picked compilations of similarly themed episodes. Not a bad idea, especially for those of us a bit too strapped for cash to buy the complete seasons, and we're getting some of the best episodes from each show. My only quip is that some episodes have popped up more than once in these collections. The latest, "Captain's Log," is sort of different from the four released last year, in that, in addition to fan selections, the actors who played the lead in each series also selected their personal favorites.
Movie Quotes
Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac... It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole! Bill Murray Caddyshack
