The problems with this film include its length, just under 3 hours, almost an hour of dialog before any action begins, and a sterile performance by most of the great stars in the film.  You are seeing all these great stars together; Laurence Olivier, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, DIrk Bogarde, Gene Hackman, Ryan O'Neil and they are doing nothing.  What a waste.

The true story is about one of the biggest blunders of World War II by the Allies, Operation Market Garden. After a successful invasion, the Allied command decided to drop troops behind enemy lines and push on to Germany to end the war quickly.  But due to a lethal combination of bad weather, politics, and failed expectations, the plan was a miserable failure costing thousands of Allied lives. 
Of all the Fox/MGM war titles to be released, this one has been the poorest I've watched.  Skip this one unless you are building a Blu-Ray library and do not have the standard DVD.
