Review
"Bubble" is a deep indie drama from the uber-talented Steven Soderbergh.
Set in a small town, the story of " Bubble" revolves around three factory workers. There's a middle-aged single woman named Martha, a young man named Kyle, and a single mother (Rose) whom is attracted to Kyle. Without giving away too much, a murder takes place which turns these character's lives upside down. On the surface " Bubble" may sound like an overly simplistic, artsy film by brilliant director Steven Soderbergh, but there's much more to it than one may realize. It's really a deep story about class systems, religious fanaticism, feeling trapped in small town America, jealousy, and the notion that life can be empty. True, the movie doesn't exactly tackle the happiest movie subjects, but it is still well worth watching for those looking for a provoking movie outside of the norm.
Picture and Sound
The 2.40:1 widescreen picture quality has spots of grain, but looks fairly clear. Having seen the DVD version before, I can say this release looks superior. The Dolby Digital Plus and DTS 3.0 tracks, however, are a little too faint for my taste. I expect stronger audio tracks for an HD DVD release.
Extras
* HDNET ad and 4 Magnolia Pictures previews.
* "Higher Definition: Bubble Episode"- A nearly 25 minute show in which critic Robert Wilonsky interviews Steven Soderbergh.
* Commentary track with Steven Soderbergh and Mark Romanek. Soderbergh provides many interesting facts on this experimental project including his direction style with the non-actors.

Featured Review
"Galapagos" is a three part documentary narrated by actress Tilda Swinton. Throughout these three parts, which are titled "Born Of Fire," "Islands That Changed The World," and "Forces Of Change," we learn close to everything there is to know about the islands. We see how the volcanoes formed the islands, the inhabitants (turtles, birds, iguanas, lizards, sea lions, etc.), what has evolved over time, information about Charles Darwin's exploration, and so on. As this nature doc was shot in hi-def, the picture quality is as stunning as "Planet Earth." Everything from the glowing magma to the birds diving underwater appear so crystal clear that you feel as if you are on the island yourself. The only downside to this disc is the eye-rolling Charles Darwin and pirate re-enactments. I never have and I never will care for hokey dramatic re-enactments. It simply takes me out of what I'm watching. If I wanted to see an interpretation of an event, I would watch a proper Hollywood historical biopic or a straight forward documentary about the subject that includes nothing but interviews, photos, footage, etc. The only extra is a "Planet Earth" ad.
