The plot: Three teens start their first year of high school only to find themselves brutally terrorized by two bullies. Tired of getting beat up and pushed around, the three decide to hire a bodyguard. Enter Drillbit Taylor, a former soldier turned homeless person who lies to everyone around him and pretends to be tougher than he really is. Naturally, his antics wind up causing massive amounts of problems for everyone around him. Can Drillbit redeem himself? Will the teens be able to stand up to the bully? When I saw that Seth Rogen was writing a new film produced by Judd Apatow, I was naturally looking forward to it. I’m a huge fan of MOST of the Apatow productions and thus I figured I would wind up seeing this one. Once Owen Wilson was announced as the star, however, my anticipation soon vanished and for good reason. “Drillbit Taylor” is an entirely clichéd story with little to no originality. It’s a real cut and dry comedy with very few moments that will make you laugh. In fact, aside from the bodyguard interview session and a few cameos, I rarely laughed at all. It doesn’t help that the high school these teens attend doesn’t feel real at all as it seems like a harsher place than a prison. There is literally no security on campus which allows the bullies to get away with anything without being punished. The cast of teens is also poor as they lack screen presence. There is certainly no McLovin type of character here. As for Owen Wilson, he plays this character like he does every character meaning that Drillbit is another self-confident, wisecracking jackass. Perhaps he should go back to acting school.
Picture and Sound
The widescreen 1080P picture quality is solid all around. The skin tones look natural and the lighting is notably crisp looking.
The 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track can be summed up in one word- flat. Sure, the dialogue and music sound fine, but there is nothing much to this track at all as the film does not utilize sound much.
Extras
* 19 deleted and extended scenes.
* “Panhandle” is a 3 minute collection of alternate scenes.
* A 4 minute gag reel with some bits that are funnier than the film.
* “Line-O-Rama” is a 4 ½ minute set of alternate lines.
* Theatrical trailers.
* Featurettes on the “Rap Off” (3:30), “Bodyguard” interview session (3:00), the “Sprinkler” scene (3:30), the fight scenes (1:30), the bullies (3:00), and actor Billy O’Neill (2:30).
* “Directing Kids” is a 3 minute bit about director Steven Brill talking about, you guessed it, directing the kids.
* “Kids On The Loose” is a 2 ½ behind-the-scenes look of the teens on set.
* “The Writers Get A Chance To Talk” is a 14 minute conversation between screenwriters Kristofer Brown and Seth Rogen in which they talk about plot elements, cut ideas, etc.
* “Filking Fight” is 7 minutes of set footage.
* “The Life Of Don” is a 2 minute bonus on the character while “The Real Don: Danny McBride” is a 6 minute featurette on the actor.
* Commentary by Steven Brill, Kristofer Brown, Nate Hartley, Troy Gentile and David Dorfman. Steven and Kristofer first talk about the film, crack jokes, and imitate Owen Wilson. Later on, the three teen actors show up and liven up the track a bit. There are moments of quiet spots, however.

“The Rookie” starts out rough, but it eventually becomes a heartwarming story about following your dream.
Movie Quotes
It isn't that I don't like you, Susan, because after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn toward you; but, well, there haven't been any quiet moments! Cary Grant Bringing Up Baby
