The fourth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is painful to watch.
The plot: In the fourth season of the medical dramedy, the staff at Seattle Grace face the usual medical emergencies, new interns (including Meredith Grey’s half-sister), and the usual complicated friendships and love triangles. This Blu-ray set contains all 17 episodes.
I know “Grey’s Anatomy” is an insanely popular television that has a devoted fan base, but I don’t understand the acclaim for this show. To me, it’s nothing more than a soap opera about pretty people who happen to work in a hospital. On top of that, the show is filled with cringe worthy dialogue, self important characters who speak abnormally fast, unbelievable (and forced) melodrama, and endless love triangles that are treated like a worldwide crisis.
As if that weren’t bad enough, the characters all seem to be foolish people (at least in this season). Is anyone capable of making a decision about what they want in life? It doesn’t seem like it, does it?
I will say that some of the surgeries and patients stories were at least watchable, but so what? I can see these types of cases on “E.R.” and “House” if I wanted to, but I don’t. The medical TV genre has been so played out that has become a chore to watch.
Summary: After watching this fourth season, I have to say that I understand why Katherine Heigl decided to not make herself eligible for an Emmy nomination. I would be embarrassed too if I had to read these lines. Skip this show and watch an intelligent drama. Better yet, watch “Scrubs” which not only spoofs medical dramas like this, but it’s also funny and contains plenty of love triangles to boot.
The 1.78:1 1080P picture quality is decent. The transfers are clean and look fine for a TV Blu-ray release.
The 5.1 Uncompressed audio contains clear dialogue and music, but the track is a bit too quiet for my tastes.
