The story involves Eastwood as an aging Secret Service agent who is haunted by his failure to protect JFK on that fateful day in Dallas and his cat and mouse phone game with a brilliant government assassin out for revenge for his dismissal (John Malkovich in a memorable role) . Eastwood gets back on the Presidential protection team consisting of teammate Rene Russo, antagonistic Gary Cole and chief of staff Fred Thompson(yes, that Fred Thompson!) . Dylan McDermott (pre-The Practice) plays Eastwood's young partner. The story is well written and the film really moves from the opening but the real treat is how Eastwood and Malkovich interact through much of their phone dialog. It's a quick moving two hours of solid entertainment.
The blu-ray picture is excellent; sharp as a tack with a slight yellowish tinge in fleshtones. Other colors are very well balanced. Sound choices are few; Dolby True HD or Spanish Dolby 5.1.
Extras included are all in standard definition and contain commentary from Petersen, 3 featurettes (a making of, secret service and effects) a documentary on the Secret Service and deleted scenes.
One of Eastwood's best thrillers, "In The Line Of Fire" looks and sounds good on Blu-Ray. Only the lack of exclusive Blu-ray extras diminish its value as a release.
