The Blu-Ray release of "Jumper" is worthy your consideration for its excellent picture and sound. Some of the views in the film are spectacular, making this a great "show off your system" disc. I'm sure it will be running on brick and mortar stores Blu-Ray displays as a great example of the potential for Blu-Ray.
Paul Salo has already reviewed the standard dvd version so I'm going to borrow from his review for the synopisis of the story: Hayden Christensen is David Rice, a twenty something runaway who can teleport from continent to continent and in between everything else by just thinking about it. Realizing the potential with this ability, he parlays his talents into a life of crime, robbing banks, never getting caught and living it up in the lap of luxury. That is until Roland (Samuel L. Jackson), a mysterious figure posing as a government agent begins tracking David’s every move. On the lamb from Roland and his followers who are called Paladins, David meets up with fellow “jumper,” Griffin (Jamie Bell), an orphan who explains to him that Paladins have been killing “jumpers” for thousands of years. Continually on the run, David seeks out his grade school sweetheart to see what kind of life she’s been living. Getting her involved in his life of crime was the last thing on his mind, but when Roland kidnaps her to use her as bait, David reluctantly teams up with Griffin to hopefully bring down the ancient organization bent on wiping out every last “jumper.” While the scenario is interesting, I found the characters to be a bit shallow. A lot of unanswered questions also plague the script. Who are the Paladins?, why do they want to kill the jumpers? , what's Griffin's story?, is there another reason David's mother (Diane Lane) , chose to help him?. I could go on but I suspect there is probably a sequel mentality to the writing of this film. Picture details on locations are outstanding; examples include The Sphinx, Big Ben, Empire State Building, to name a few. Sound is lossless DTS MA HD5.1 with Dolby options in Spanish and French. The sound is perfect for an action flick like this with elements popping out of all surround speakers during the fights, etc. The extras are the same as with the standard dvd but also include a picture in picture feature "Jumping Around The World". The Blu-Ray Special edition also contains a digital copy to use in your ipod. "Jumper" is like a lot of Hollywood films-a lot s of special effects but shallow in character building. The writers seem to put their efforts into spectacular shots, stunts, and forget about the human element through much of the story. The disc is beautiful and sound is also top notch. Extras are the same as the two-disc dvd edition with more, including a digital copy. A good show off disc for Blu-Ray.

When the HD format war was still going on, Michael Bay, the director of this film, made it quite clear he preferred Blu-Ray to the now dead HD-DVD. Unfortunately Paramount had gone with HD-DVD and Michael Bay was frustrated that his work could not be seen in the format he felt was superior. The Blu-Ray edition of "Transformers" was watched particularly close when it was released to see if it lived up to the excellent HD-DVD version. Paramount came through with a very sharp and detailed picture and excellent soundtrack in Dolby HD.
