“Justice League” is a decent animated series.

The logline: In order to stop evil alien forces and old foes (Lex Luthor, The Joker) and keep mankind safe, seven superheroes (Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Hawkgirl, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, and Green Lantern) team up to form the Justice League. Of course, they are helped every now and then by other heroes such as Aquaman and Sergeant Rock. The first season contains 26 episodes.

Based on the comic book series of the same name, “Justice League” is a respectable comic adaptation, but it certainly does not compare to other works that Bruce Timm and company have worked on (such as “Batman- The Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond- Return Of The Joker”). For me, the problem is that “Justice League” is bloated. By having a large team and plots about aliens, the show becomes cluttered and unfocused at times (especially with so many cameos). I much prefer more Earth Bound stories and tend to lose interest in the over the top alien adventures.

Complaints aside, there are a few highlights here. The two part Aquaman story “The Enemy Below” is far and away the best episode on this disc. Not only does the story take Aquaman seriously (which is a rarity nowadays), but it even manages to make him a very intriguing character to boot. It was also nice to see a few familiar faces (The Joker, Steve Trevor) in various episodes.
