Dreamworks hits the bulls-eye with this animated feature starring the voices of Jack Black, Angela Jolie, and Dustin Hoffman. The computer generated images are among the best I've seen on Blu-Ray. The storyline is a bit predictable but the implementation is terrrific.
Jack Black plays the Panda Po, who works for his crane father (James Hong in a memorable role) in a noodle restaurant but idolizes the "Furious Five", Kung Fu masters who live a top the highest mountain at the Jade Palace. When word comes that the infamous Tai Lung will escape from prison, the wise old Oogway decides to choose a new Dragon Master to battle him. Everyone assumes it will be one of the Furious Five but Po, who can't even get in to see the selection is picked due to a comical mishap. He now must be trained by Shifu (Hoffman), who can not see the wisdom of the choice. The compuetr animation is absolutely beautiful on Blu-Ray from the opening dream sequence to the highly detailed character detail. The backgrounds and sets are also a highlight; bright and colorful. Action sequences (this is a Kung Fu movie) were a challenge for the animators and they came up with scenes that have never been attempted before with exciting results. A major highlight is the Furoius Five's confrontation with the villain on a series of rope bridges. Extras on the Blu-Ray disc include BD-Live features, a trivia track, an storyboards and interviews. Also available are a number of featurettes in HD, ranging from learning to draw Po, helping to save wild Pandas, to a fascinating feature on making noodles. Of course their are making of features with cast members and animators. It is a full package of extras but does not include the "Furious Five" feature that is available in the standard dvd double set. A great system show off disc, this Blu-Ray version of "Kung Fu Panda" is beautiful to watch and enjoy. Graphics couldn't be better and the single disc has a lot of extra features. A great visual feat for the eyes and great storyline with diverse voice talents, a must purchase for Blu-Ray owners this holiday season.

The story: Ex-Army scientist Robert Neville believes he is the last human on Earth after a biological war destroyed life on Earth. All that remains besides Neville is a group of virus infected sunlight hating albinos who try their best to kill Neville. Can Robert fight off the infected madmen? Will he find any human survivors? Can he develop a cure? "The Omega Man" is a mixed-bag. The screenplay may have some intriguing ideas about religion and the flaws of humanity, but it is undeniably dated and it strays a little too far from Richard Matheson's classic novel "I Am Legend." I still don't understand why screenwriters John William and Joyce Corrington replaced the creepy vampires with a cult of albino whackos. A bad choice on their part. Flaws aside, the film does have some impressive moments. First and foremost, director Boris Sagal absolutely nails the Post-Apocalyptic atmosphere. The deserted downtown streets and freeways are chillingly effective. It's too bad the sloppy "I Am Legend" with Will Smith didn't take cues from "The Omega Man" as the horrendous CGI landscapes and creatures completely took me out of that film. I also have to note that actor Charlton Heston does a commendable job here. I especially liked his one man show performance in the first half hour. He really made me believe that he was a lone survivor who was continuously struggling to survive and hold on to his sanity. The 2.4:1 widescreen picture quality may have spots of grain, but the picture has been cleaned up considerably. Another superb Warner catalogue title no doubt. The Dolby Digital Plus 1.0 track doesn't compare to most of the HD releases, but it's still solid all around. Extras: * A theatrical trailer. * "The Last Man Alive- The Omega Man"- A 9:46 featurette that shows behind-the-scenes clips and Heston coming to terms with his character. * A 4 minute introduction by Joyce Corrington, Paul Koslo, and Eric Laneuville.
Movie Quotes
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. Rutger Hauer Blade Runner
