Ford is a great Jack Ryan and the one I consider the best of the three actors who have portrayed the Tom Clancy character.  His relunctant hero take on Ryan is well played out in both the films he starred in.  Anne Archer is perfect as his wife; the chemistry was effortlessly there. 
This film is not the greatest high definition transfer I've seen but don't believe what you read on Amazon either.  While much of the film is dark and has some visible grain, I did not find the picture unacceptable or filled with flaws as some reviews have stated.  I found the transfer to be a step up from standard dvd but the "wow" factor is small.  The audio soundtrack in Dolby TrueHD is a real treat and the action thriller benefits from this upgrade the most.  Separation of channels is outstanding and the action sequences are much improved with this Blu-Ray disc.
Extras are disappointing, consisting of a 40 minute standard def feature of cast including Ford and crew recalling the film and its sequel.  Only the trailer is included in HD.

While I appreciate Paramount's first efforts to get on board with titles for Blu-Ray, I wonder about their plans to fully develop the format with picture in picture and other features.  Most of their releases to  date have been absent of the new technolgy these disc can provide.
