This third season of "Prison Break" has our hero, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) back in prison, but this time in a very scary Panama jail, where the guards and authorities stay on the outside and the inmates run the inside.  Many of the principle characters from past season are also in the prison, as they were all after the hidden money from Season Two.  Most memorable is T-Bag, played with skill by Robert Knepper; you love to hate this guy but he is a survivor.

Even though this season is too short (only 13 episodes) because of the writer's strike,  they do pull off an entertaining and taut action show, full of tension and surprises.  When you watch "Prison Break", you never know when they will kill off a main character and this season is no exception.  The plot in this shortened season has Michael in prison where he must find and break out another prisoner, who is wanted by "the Company".   They have hired a beautiful but deadly negotiator who kidnaps Linc's son and Sarah to get Michael to cooperate.

Throughout the season, Michael has to think fast to survive in many situations and make friends of enemies to pull the escape plan off.The HD picture is very well done in television widescreen format.  The prison atmosphere is made that much more gritty and horrific in HD.  The brutality of this prison makes Fox River look tame.  The soundtrack on the discs is DTS HD MA, a real treat for a Fox disc set.

 Extras are the worst part of this set.  While the set includes a paper insert with a breakdown of episodes (that's a rarity these days), the extras are all in standard definition or worse.  They include a season overview by cast, an introduction to some new cast members and some "Director's Take featurettes, which look absolutely horrible.  The resolution makes me think these short 3 minute featurettes were webisodes.  Even the menus on the Blu-Ray discs lack some standard features, such as pop-up menus.

"Prison Break-Season Three" has all the thrills and surprises from past seasons and the writers managed to come up with an effective yet short plot line for the 13 episodes.  The high quality Blu-Ray picture and excellent DTS soundtrack make this set a definite purchase for fans, even though the extras are not up to Blu-Ray standards.
