Review

The high definition wars have not produced that many classic films in either format but Warner Brothers is one studio to put out some great classic films to help classic film buffs who are early adopters. John Wayne's famous western, "Rio Bravo" is one such film Warner chose for the new format with great results. Picture issues for such as old film are expected but the film has never looked better on home video. I found the Blu-Ray disc to be a bit over saturated in the reds and yellows, and there were a few color shifts at reel endings. There was very little grain or dirt on the film but the entire film showed some softness and some chroma around face outlines. Sound is 2 channel mono and the disc comes with a lot of great extras about director Howard Hawks. For twenty bucks (street Price), this is a great buy for Wayne fans.

When "Battlestar Galactica" premiered on sci-fi channel, I foolishly wrote it off as another pointless re-make. Boy was I wrong. When I sat down and watched the pilot/miniseries, I was completely and utterly blown away. The kiddy aspects and cardboard characters of the original series were nowhere to be found in this updated version. Instead, showrunner Ronald D. Moore has gone above and beyond the original show by creating a dark, thinking man's sci-fi series that has revitalized the science fiction genre as we know it.
