"Shoot 'Em Up" is exactly what the title implies;it is an action flick on steroids. Clive Owen is the carrot munching hero? who in the first two minutes of the film manages to rescue a pregnant woman from the bad guys, deliver the baby, and shoot about ten other guys while doing it. Then we meet chief baddie, Paul Giamatti, who is a total slime ball. He's after the baby at all costs. Owen takes the baby to lactating prostitute Monica Bellucci (who better to take care of a new born) and soon all three are on the run from Giamatti and the never ending string of gunmen with him. The action sequences in this film are completely over the top; it's almost as if director Mike Davis is making a satire of the genre.
Example, Owen and baby are racing around and get hit by a chasing van. Door flies off and baby falls out on the road. Owen spins the car around, scoops up the baby and then smashes head on into the back of the van, flying through the shattered windshield into the back of the van shooting everyone in it. Another scene has Owen killing people with the carrots he munches on.

The disc's high definition picture is worthy of a show off disc (you certainly have a lot of scenes to choose from) with an excellent 1080p transfer. Colors are a bit muted but that is intentional to make the film look darker. The soundtrack is unbeliievable as it contains a 7.1 DTS HD lossless, 5.1 DTS and 2.0.
Extras arep lentiful as well with commentary by director Michael Davis, a making of featurette, and Davis animatics from scenes with optional commentary. The disc also includes deleted scenes and trailers.

"Shoot 'Em Up" is a mindless action flick beyond belief. It's a wild ride from start to finish and some of the stunt work is incredible. It can be appreciated on that level for sure. At times, the script goes a bit too far in the sleeze factor but overall this is a spirited romp of non-stop action for 90 minutes made even better by its Blu-ray presentation.
