“So I Married An Axe Murderer” has not aged well.

The logline: A poet named Charlie meets the girl of his dreams. After reading a news article about an axe murdering woman, however, Charlie becomes paranoid and begins to find things that make him wonder if SHE is the axe murderer. He soon disregards his fears, but they come sweeping back on the night of his honeymoon. Will Charlie be killed? Is his wife really the killer?

Looking back on “So I Married An Axe Murderer,” Mike Myers limitations as a comedic and dramatic actor are more apparent than ever. In fact, his dramatic work is quite frankly embarrassing as he seems incapable of playing a normal guy. As strange as it is, he’s only comfortable when he’s playing a different character like Charlie’s Scottish father (who sounds exactly like “Shrek” I might add).

In addition to a weak Myers performance, the script (written by Robbie Fox) is full of stale humor, a one joke premise, and awkward pacing. This has to be one of the slowest comedies out there. Granted, not every comedy has to be fast paced, but there is a film term known as editing that proves useful in fine tuning a comedy.
