"Sunshine" is a modern science fiction film with a great cast and intriguing, appealing story. The cast ensemble work well together and the metallic ship's set contributes to the suspense and lurking danger as the film reaches its climax.
The story takes place onboard the Icarus II, a ship built to fly into the sun to re-ignite it after a space element, known a a Q Ball, has dimmed it. As the ship draws closer in to its target, a series of accidents start to occur that leads to a suspenseful and surprising turn of events.
The young cast does a fine job in their roles, especially Cillian Murphy, who is indispensable as the father of the device to save humanity, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Evans, and Rose Byrne.

The Blu-ray picture is of reference quality, with stunning visuals and effects. Sound is offered in regular compressed Dolby digital 5.1 and DTS-HD MA 5.1.
This is the first Fox title to also offer PIP features on Blu-Ray, or 1.1 format for those lucky enough to have a player with that standard. I found the Picture In Picture interesting ( a smaller screen pops up during the film with commentary and extras about the film) but sometimes the pop up had nothing to do with the scene being shown. Since this is the first PIP from a studio (kudos for Fox for including it) I won't be too harsh but better coordination between the extra features during PIP and the context of the film would have been better. We also get commentary from director Danny Boyle and scientist Dr. Brian Cox, who discuss the science of the picture. A neat feature only available for 1.1 compliant players involves mixing the sound of certain scenes of the film through your remote, another first feature. A couple short films, "Dad's Dead" and "Mole Hill" are also included. Deleted scenes and an alternate ending top out the extras.

In summation, "Sunshine" is part "Alien", "Silent Running", "2001", and" Event Horizon" rolled into one. If those films appeal to you, you'll probably like "Sunshine" A fine cast performance, believable effects and atmosphere, an intense story lead to an entertaining package. Blu-Ray exclusive extras (a rarity so far) are to be applauded. Let's hope Fox continues to push the extras envelope. A worthy purchase on Blu-Ray .
