“The Scorpion King 2: Rise Of A Warrior” is a dumb, but slightly entertaining Direct-To-DVD adventure.

Logline: After Mathayus witnesses his father’s death, he vows to become a warrior to defeat the evil man who murdered his father (Sargon). In order to do so, however, Mathayus must first track down a powerful sword to defeat him. Can he find the sword? Is he strong enough to fight Sargon?

“The Scorpion King 2” is by no means a quality movie. Most of the acting is atrocious, the dialogue is wooden, some of the action is more or a less a rip-off of “300,”and UFC star Randy Couture has no acting abilities to speak of. With that said, I am slightly ashamed to admit that I found the film semi-entertaining, at least compared to the bore fest that was “Mummy 3.” In this film, the action at least holds your interest and the production values are surprisingly high for a non-theatrical release. I was especially impressed by the sets and costumes.

The film also has one bright spot in actor Simon Quarterman who plays a Greek poet named Ari. He is the only actor to liven up the film as he is the only with personality.

In conclusion, “The Scorpion King 2” is not a film I would recommend by any means, but if it happens to pop up on cable one day, it might be worth a watch if you want to mock the film with a group of friends.
