Review

“Vengeance” is a mess.

The plot: A group of cops chase after a group of criminals through a magical, forbidden, and dangerous jungle. What lies in the jungle? Will anyone be able to get out alive?

 

The plot summary of “Vengeance” makes it sound like an intriguing adventure, but trust me, this film doesn’t make a lick of sense. The film is literally full of character running around shooting at each other and getting involved in nonsensical adventures which include fruit tree maidens, a big snake, lizards, winged creatures, and killer wasps. To say the movie is unfocused is an understatement. I wouldn’t be surprised if the director was making it up as he went along.

 

I will admit, however, that the cinematography is nice to look at. More often than not I found myself gazing at the streams, trees, backgrounds more than watching the ridiculous antics unfold on screen. Trust me, it’s a better way to watch the film.

Picture and Sound

The 2.35:1 1080P is sharp looking and full of vibrant colors and lush cinematography. This is hands down the best BCI Blu-ray release to date.

The Thai Dolby Digital 5.1 Uncompressed audio track (with English Subs) has clear dialogue and sound F.X The English 2.0 dub track is also solid.

As nearly every media outlet has been reporting, films about terrorism or the war have not done well at the box office. Maybe it's because most of the films are not very good, or maybe it's because these hot button topic films aren't exactly "entertaining." Afterall, a majority of people strictly see movies to enjoy themselves or to forget their everyday lives. It should come as no surprise then that of all the 2007 terrorism films, the action packed "The Kingdom" made the most money (around $47 million). Of course, the problem with "The Kingdom" is that IT IS the least provoking and intelligent of the war/terror films released last year.
