Review

Phil Collins has lead a Less Than Ordinary Life, there can be no denying that. This career spanning DVD from BBC 1 covers Collins? career from his first movie when he was a young boy, to his time with Genesis, Brand X, and his transformation into a full-fledged solo act that turned him into one of the phenomena?s of the music industry. You do not get full tracks of music to listen to, which is a disappointment, but there are highlights of songs playing in the background to go along with the excellent commentary from the BBC documentary. Collins offers his story from the beginning to present day through a series of in depth interviews to give his fans the truth behind the life of a rock star. He covers everything from his personal life to the bands he played with. There is footage of early Genesis and the reaction of the press to the developments and evolution of the group, such as the outlandish outfits that Peter Gabriel wore onstage, up to when Phil took over for Peter as lead singer of the band. Collins commented on how frustrating it was for him when Gabriel was presenting all of his outfits at concerts and how the audience was not paying attention to the music, just the visuals provided by the group. I found it interesting how he compared and contrasted what it was like then and how music fans interpret music and visuals today. Now I know what is behind all the great music I have been listening to for the last 25 years?a man that is sensitive, kind and dedicated to his art. I was very much absorbed in this presentation and I was glad I had the opportunity to view it. All music fans will certainly find something to relate to with this DVD because of the time span it covers and all the different types of music Collins has been involved with over the years. Although an audio experience was not the focus, this was a very interesting and rather engrossing story. My world is now richer and more complete because I learned about the people that created the music that touched my life. ?"Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck June 21, 2003

Jackson Browne-Going Home

Category: Music Reviews
Jackson Browne, poet, singer, songwriter made this video back in 1994, and it faithfully captures his career in this entertaining documentary-concert. The DVD includes interviews with Jackson, and his friends. We get a number of songs and excerpts during this 90 minute program. Jackson is more than a musician as well, as he has done benefit shows for many causes he feels strongly about . People speak of his passion for improving the environment and helping out people in need,, regardless of their political ties or country.
