Review

While Faith Hill and Shania Twain are getting all the attention there is a gorgeous singer by the name of Alison Krause that has been making quite a name for herself in the realm of real country music, bluegrass. She not only sings she plays the fiddle. On Alison Krause + Union Station Live, a two DVD set, she is accompanied by a talented group of gents that call themselves Union Station. This music will please country traditionalist and easily cross over into the more contemporary/pop audience. The band and Ms. Krause make their way through a hefty 25 tracks much to the delight of their attentive audience. Krause is very entertaining, interacting with audience and the band in a very warm and humorous manner. On a beautiful starry night, both the entertainers and the audience enjoy the pleasures of the open-air ambiance of a facility located in Kentucky. The vocals of Alison Krause steal away the night. She reminds me of Dolly Parton is some ways and she definitely has one of the sweetest voices in music. The musical support in this performance is wonderful which makes each song a true to life journey down an old country road where the stories were born. The folks from Kentucky seem to love every minute of it and you will too if you happen to appreciate fine vocals and bluegrass music. For the ardent fan, there is a second disc with tons of pictures, interviews and behind the scenes footage. ?"Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck August 30, 2003

Doors, The-Classic Albums

Category: Music Reviews
This latest release from Eagle Rock, "Classic Albums" series features the recording of the first Doors album. Besides the usual crazy stories about the famed "Lizard King", the disc is a fascinating look at recording techniques back in the 60's and how the Doors exclusive sound came about. Each memebr of the band contributes individually through interviews and demostrate techniques they used for the first studio record; a bossa nova beat for Break On Through from John Densmore, the bass organ keyboard from Ray Mazarek, and Flemenco guitar riffs from Robbie Kreiger. Its a fascinating look at recording and how the process evolves.
