When I listened to the Edgar Winter CD Live At The Galaxy I was quite pleased with what I heard, then I watched and listened more intently to the DVD. This is the first DVD I have ever viewed of Edgar Winter performing. I fondly remember him from his outstanding ?70s output with the albums They Only Come Out At Night and Shock Treatment. Although I realize he has been performing actively for many years this is my own personal recollection of his music. Not to coin a phrase, pun, or to be cruel, but I think Edgar is in the Winter of his career in regards to popularity. Regardless, his voice remains strong and his abilities spot on. The natural wear and tear after decades of touring and recording has been kind to his vocal cords. He always sang from his toes heartily and at times screamed, so it comes as a surprise that he has held up so well. The backing band he has is terrific and he still can play the keyboards and saxophone with plenty of vitality and skill. His classics ?Frankenstein? and ?Tobacco Road? are the proof of his strong constitution on stage and ability to turn on the audience with blues soaked rockin? boogie, he has not lost a step with his energetic live performances. Doug Rappaport is no Rick Derringer or Johnny Winter but he is no slouch either, he holds his own and keeps the audience pumped with some six-string pyrotechnics of his own. Chris Frazier (drums) and Mark Meadows (bass) are a strong and in-step rhythm section that keeps Mr. Winter in a steady groove all night. Edgar even plays the drums during ?Frankenstein,? doing a give and take with Frazier, much to the crowd?s delight (and mine). On ?Tobacco Road? Winter scats (just like Ella Fitzgerald) and Rappaport answers him with his guitar, it?s a lot of fun to watch. Another highlight of the show is ?New Orleans,? Edgar?s tribute to Dr. John. It?s a real Mardi Gras complete with a full horn section and balloons dropping from the ceiling, what a rock ?n? roll party! If you already picked up the CD, you really should check out the DVD, it makes it all hit home, plus you get all the bonuses like an in-depth interview with Edgar, backstage footage and rehearsals, all the cool and personal up close stuff you cannot get into on a CD. ?"Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck January 12, 2004

If you think for a second Judas Priest has lost anything over the years, well, ?You?ve Got Another Thing Coming.? I saw this band for the first time in July of this year, and they blew me away with one incredible performance. Their sheer power as a band and Rob Halford?s unbelievable vocals were something special to witness. Little did I know that the same performance I saw was going to come out on DVD? Rising In The East is were else? The legendary venue of Budokan. The quality of this video is stunning and the sound is just as good. It comes at you full force, pounding through your speakers in glorious clear and crisp 5.1 Surround Sound. This is a fitting tribute to the power of the Priest live. They are the only band out there right now making this kind of metal music, which not only makes them unique but also puts them in a class all be themselves, which they always were anyway. Forget about the interviews, bonus goodies and the like, this is JP straight up with no chaser, 23 tracks of blistering hard rock to set your soul afire and make that hole inside you fill up with nothing but pure unadulterated metal energy. Yes, this is what it is all about metal heads, the king is sitting back on his thrown, long live the Priest! Even ?Diamonds And Rust? with an acoustic guitar strumming along rocks with Halford at the helm. I remember the concert in Worcester, Mass. this year and looking at the person that accompanied me. We both stood there shaking our heads in awe at how Halford could still scream as he does, he was truly amazing. If you happened to miss any of the shows this year this DVD is living proof of everything I am saying. This was a true gift for me, a memento to one the best concerts I have ever seen. I know Budokan is a great venue and bands record live there for a reason, so this is yet another monument to the importance of the site. Whether you were at that particular show or any other this year, or even if you were not, get this DVD. ? Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck November 30, 2005
