Review

American death metal merchants God Forbid out-do themselves with their fourth release, "Constituion of Treason," an apocalyptic concept album that's a must for anyone who bows to the feet of bands like Slayer or Shadows Fall. Divided into three 'articles,' the 10 songs on this disc chronicle the end of the world, only to have society rebuild itself into a worse state than it was before the apocalypse. Byron Davis' typically roaring vocal delivery tends to overshadow the fact his lyrics are actually well-written and smart, but even if you don't give a crap about the words, the music does a lot to enhance the dark, oppressive mood of the story - fast and complex when it needs to be, but also quite melodic, even meloncholy at times. The DVD side of this release features a lengthy and detailed making-of documentary (with typically "edgy" grainy photography & shakey camerawork), chronicling nearly every aspect of the recording of the album. Fans are sure to love seeing these guys discuss their philosophy and approach to making their brand of music, this album in particular. A superior 'DualDisc' release from Century Media.

Classic Heep Live From The Byron Era

Category: Music Reviews
This DVD was a real treat for a lifetime fan of Uriah Heep. I am a big fan, and I always have been of this great band. It is not too hard to figure out if you have read any of my reviews. Up until now, I had never witnessed any archived footage of the David Byron era. That particular lineup I call the classic lineup (i.e. Yes). Classic Heep Live From The Byron Era is a tribute to late great front man. The footage is dated so do not expect the pristine high quality video that you have become accustomed in a DVD (like Magic Night). It is definitely a 70?s era film and at times, the jumping back and forth from member to member makes you dizzy! Regardless, it is a nice memory of Byron and his significance to the band. David Byron was a charismatic and at times campy performer; his voice was a unique tool utilized the best possible way for the music behind him. As much as I enjoy the current lineup of Uriah Heep, this is without any doubt the best and most memorable. This is a DVD worth having for many reasons, primarily if you can remember when David Byron was with the band and you can appreciate why he was so important to them, and if you did not realize it, you will now. ?
