Review

Indy's back, and so is composer John Williams to herald his return. This soundtrack disc of the film's score pretty much delivers what you'd expect from yet-another Spielberg/Williams collaboration...and lots of it this time. At over 70 minutes, this is easily the longest of the Indiana Jones soundtrack albums, so if quantity is what you seek, you'll get your money's worth. On the other hand, while the newer themes and incidental music tracks are okay, none of them are very memorable. The album's best moments are the already-familiar ones, namely the tracks which include iconic themes of previous scores. The "Raider's March" alone makes this worth owning.

Summary

Like most of John Williams' film scores, the music works better within the context of the film than as a pure listening experience on its own. This soundtrack has some great moments, but most of them are provided by familiar themes that are already part of our pop consciousness. Not a bad album at all, but probably worth picking up only by completists or those who don't have the original "Raiders" OST in their CD collection.
