This latest "Classic Album" dvd features John Lennon's first solo studio album since the breakup of the Beatles. Lennon had been dealing with a lot of personal  issues and sought to release pent up feelings from his life. What he created was an entirely original, personal statement on everything from the death of his mother, his absent father, pain, drug addiction and the breakup.

This dvd, as most in the Classic album series deals with the concept of the album, the individual songs, the people involved in the sessions, and its historic importance. Quotes from audio interviews of John talking about the album are a real highight. The other principles interviewed include Yoko Ono, who speaks for John and herself, Ringo, who drummed on the album and talks about his drumming style and technique plus his love of the album and John, Klaus Voorman, bass session man and Plastic Ono Band regular, whom John had known since the early sixties when the Beatles played Germany, and Phil McDonald; recording engineer of many of the sessions. It's fascinating to hear some of the individual tracks of songs when McDonald plays the master tape and isolates Lennon's vocals on  "Mother".
Demos and early takes are just one of the highlights in the extras, with a guitar version of "God" played in full by Lennon. Other extras include original videos for" Instant Karma", Working Klaus Hero, "Mother" Live at Madison Square Garden", and Well, Well, Well Hidden Phrase.

This 90 minutes disc is must for every Lennon fan as it was the ultimate, personal statement of a man who had been in the spotlight for years without anyone really knowing him. The raw intensity of this album brings forth an artist willing to reveal himself to the world without hesitation, and humble himself for the woman he loved.
