Review

Another month, another “Alvin And The Chipmunks” release.

In this disc, we get three spoofs of “Batman,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Robocop” which are titled “Daytona Jones And The Pearl Of Wisdom,” “Robomunk,” and “Batmunk.”

If you’ve seen one ‘Chipmunks’ episode, you’ve seen them all. These three parodies are the same as all the other parody episodes in that they are incredibly mediocre. The “Daytona Jones” episode contains elements of all three “Indiana Jones” films which makes it more of a tribute/cash-in than an actual parody. The same goes for “Batmunk” (which is an obnoxious take off of Burton’s 1989 “Batman” movie) and “Robomunk.” To top it off, there are ear-piercingly bad tunes scattered throughout these episodes to make them less appealing than they already are.

My major complaint, however, is that there is little to no humor in the series. We know how the characters act from the first time we see them and they never act differently. We know that Simon is the smart one, Alvin is the troublemaker, and Theodore is the worried, hungry one and that they all sing. There's not much more to the characters than that which is a shame.

On a side note, I don’t understand why Paramount is releasing these single discs that only contain a few episodes. Why not release a box set or a season set?

The fullscreen picture quality is poor once again. Why don’t they restore these episodes?

The Dolby Digital Stereo track is decent, but nothing to rave about by any means.

The only extras are trailers for “Alvin And The Chipmunks,” “Spongebob Squarepants,” and “Go Diego Go.”

Gladiators 7

Category: Quick Reviews
http://www.vcihomevideo.com/ An Italian production from the early 60s stars Richard Harrison and an Italian dubbed cast. The film is more entertaining than most and this is the kind of film that played in drive-ins in the 60s. Gore is minimal and this disc is presented in widescreen. VCI Entertainment has more of these Italian B films in the wings so stay tuned.

finally won out over it.
