The story: After a boat (that belonged to a scientist) makes its way into New York, the daughter of the scientist (Anne) and a journalist named Peter travel to an Island to find the missing scientist. During their stay at the Island, Anne and Peter not only discover what happened to Anne's father, but they find out that a mysterious plague is reviving the dead. Can this zombie plague be stopped or will it spread throughout the world? After a slow first thirty minutes, "Zombie" really picks up when viewers are treated to one of the most memorable scenes in horror film history- a zombie fighting/biting a shark underwater (yes, you read that right). From there on out, it only gets better when the freaky looking zombies (courtesy of makeup master Gianetto De Rossi) begin to munch on (or even kill) the human population. To top it off, "Zombie" concludes with a kick-ass cliffhanger ending that will please most any horror enthusiast. The remastered 2.35:1 widescreen picture has spots of grain here and there, but the sharp colors more than make up for the flaws. The sound quality is also fairly solid. Viewers have the option of watching the film with 5.1/2.0 Dolby Digital tracks or an Original Mono track in English or in Italian with optional English subs. Extras include a theatrical trailer, TV spots, radio spots, a Lucio Fulci bio, and a poster and still gallery. Conclusion: Along with George Romero's brilliant works, Zombie is one of the better horror titles out there. Recommended.
