“Baby It’s You” is a romantic dramedy that chronicles the complex relationship between an opinionated wannabe actress named Jill (Rosanna Arquette) and a cocky Italian guy named Albert (Vincent Spano) during and after high school.

“Baby It’s You” may boast a talented cast and crew (John Sayles, Rosanna Arquette, Matthew Modine and a young Robert Downey Jr.) as well as a superb soundtrack featuring the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Procol Harum and Frank Sinatra, but the film’s romantic story feels entirely too forced. I could never buy into the couple’s relationship simply because Albert was a creep. Not only does he obsessively stalk, corrupt, and kidnap Jill, but he’s also a thug who gets kicked out of the school and gets into trouble with the law. Granted, it’s nice to see a teen film that doesn’t resemble a John Hughes flick for once, but I just wish the film didn’t revolve around a couple who would in all likelihood end up on an episode of “Cops.”

The 1.78:1 widescreen picture looks like a VHS tape. A very poor transfer to say the least.

The audio track is also pretty awful. The superb soundtrack sounds like it’s being played through a dying radio.
