Having lived through the turbulant 60's myself, I was anxious to see this documentary based on the infamous trial of Yippies held after the debacle of the Democratic convention of 1968. This film, put together from archived film footage and new animation, intersperses the two different sources for a well made look at the turbulant 60s. It was interesting that while ZI was watching this, my son, aged 17, who considers himself rather "hip", came in and when I told him it what it was all about, he had never heard of it or of any of the participants, including Jerry Rubin and Abby Hoffman.
Since cameras were not allowed in the courtroom, documentary filmmaker Brett Morgan reconstructed the trial from transcripts and animation, using famous actors in the key roles. Hank Azaria, Dylan Baker, Nick Nolte, Roy Scheider,Liev Schreiber, and Jeffrey Wright all play key characters in the animation sequences. Much of the archival footage is in poor shape but the various scratches and dust spots simply let you know this is a time gone by when America was deeply torn because of the war in Vietnam. The animation sequences are very well done and at times, blend into the archival footage. Dolby 5.1 is the available soundtrack and it does its best with the new and older sound; the music used in the scenes was very dramatic and had a major impact in certain scenes.
Extras included are a remix trailer and trailers to other socially "relevant" films, such as An Inconvenient Truth". It would have been better to include a "where are they now" extra, as most of the revolutionaries of the day evolved into mainstream Americans; joining the establishment they had been fighting.
"Chicago 10" (wasn't it the Chicago 8?) is a fascinating look at the past and is required viewing for anyone interested in that time in America's history; embarassing as it may have been. More than anything, this documentary shows that this was not Chicago's or America's justice system's finest hour.

"Cinderella" is the most-filmed story in movie history. Mention the name to most people, they'll inevitably think of this 1950 animated classic, and with good reason. Though obvious liberties are taken with the original tale, this is the definitive Hollywood version of the story, and arguably the last of Disney's truly great animated films until "The Little Mermaid" 39 years later. For it's DVD release, Disney has pulled out all the stops in restoring the picture & sound to its original pristine glory...the transfer of this film is easily one of their best, making "Cinderella" look like a brand new film. The ample set of extras range from very good to phenomenally stupid (who really gives a damn about teenage Disney tarts performing in a techno remake of "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes?"). Another goofy feature is ESPN Classic's "Cinderella Stories," which is exactly what you think it is, but seems hilariously out of place for inclusion in this package. Still, since the shameless self-promoting Disney empire owns ESPN, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.
