Review

Having never seen "Dallas" before, I decided to give the popular show about the Ewing's oil business a shot. I regret my decision entirely. Granted, "Dallas" is incredibly outdated, but that doesn't hide the fact that it is a poorly made and poorly written television program. Honestly, what is the appeal of this show? Better yet, how did it last 14 seasons?
The acting is wooden and hokey, virtually every character is a foolish drunken, cheating, greedy, scumbag that seems to get shot at in every other episode, the soap opera drama is cringe worthy at best, the accents are atrocious and the dialogue might be some of the worst ever uttered. Don't believe me? Here are a few sample quotes: "I need you in my life, otherwise I'll turn into a hopeless drunk." "You're pregnant, we're separated...so what the hell are you gonna do now Donna?" About the only worthwhile aspects of the show are the guest appearances (Dennis Haysbert for instance) and the late Donna Reed (of "It's A Wonderful Life" fame) in her last role as Miss Ellie. The only extra feature is a 9:45 featurette on the fashion of the show titled "Dallas Makeover- Travilla Style." "Dallas" is presented in a VHS quality fullscreen picture with a flat Dolby Digital Mono track. This eighth season contains the complete 30 episodes.
